Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight had only completed 47 passes all season entering the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl against Alabama, but the freshman registered a Sugar Bowl-record 32 completions and set an OU bowl record with four touchdown passes against the Crimson Tide to lead the Sooners to a 45-31 victory in New Orleans. Knight stepped up on the biggest stage of his young career for OU (11-2), finishing the game with 348 yards against an Alabama squad that entered the game ranked fifth in the nation in total defense. The Crimson Tide, led by senior quarterback AJ McCarrons 387-yard, two-touchdown performance, made some big plays throughout the evening but was unable to keep pace with the Sooners due to five crucial turnovers. Oklahoma forced McCarron into three miscues a pair of interceptions and one fumble that all resulted in points for the Sooners. The fifth and final takeaway of the night came at critical juncture for OU when defensive end Geneo Grissom scooped up a McCarron for an eight-yard touchdown to seal the win in the final minute. The Crimson Tide (11-2) managed to generate over 500 yards of offense, but after taking an early 7-0 lead, were never able to regain a scoreboard advantage against Oklahoma. The Sooners finished the game with 429 yards of offense as wide receiver Jalen Saunders caught a pair of touchdowns, while fellow senior wideout Lacoltan Bester registered one score and a team-high 105 receiving yards. The official 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl DVD is a great addition to the collection of any Oklahoma fan.
